Air Travel Information

BCD Travel has availability to all of the major airlines and is able to book the lowest possible fares offered in all markets. This service is available to all faculty, students and families traveling to Halifax and/or Norfolk, VA. Please keep in mind when making your return flight reservation from Norfolk, VA that your flight should depart no earlier than 6:00 PM on the day of arrival. The late departure is due to the significant number of people on board needing to clear US Customs and this process is fairly slow. Although airlines do not offer any special group air discounts at this time BCD Travel is able to check all airline schedules and rates in one easy phone call, rather than you having to call each individual airline.

There will be $35.00 per ticket service charge for BCD Travel to make your reservation and issue your airline tickets. (There is also a $10.00 per room charge for hotel only reservations made through BCD Travel which will be waived if you book air and hotel through BCD Travel.)

New Passport Requirements for Travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean Effective December 31, 2006.

The U.S. State Department has new rules requiring that effective December 31, 2006, all individuals traveling by sea or air from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean (with the exception of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) will require a passport or other accepted official form of identification to enter or re-enter the United States. As of December 31, 2007 travelers entering or re-entering the United States from Canada or Mexico via land border crossings will be required to present a passport or other accepted official form of identification. Please refer to www.travel.state.gov or call the U.S. National Passport Information Center at 1-877-4USA-PPT (1-877-487-2778) for further details on these new passport requirements and information about obtaining or renewing passports.

The new requirements are part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) which is one element of a much larger law, the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. The U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security have jurisdiction over implementation of the WHTI. We encourage our guests traveling to or from the U.S. in 2009 to review the new requirements and begin the process of applying for or renewing their passports.
